Mulching & Wood Chipping Monbulk
On-site chipping of branches and storm prunings across the Monbulk hills, plus bulk hardwood mulch for the cool-climate gardens that thrive up here.
Most Monbulk customers find us one of two ways, either a stack of branches they have cut down themselves and now cannot get rid of, or a garden job that needs cubic metres of mulch dropped on the block. The chipper handles the first and the tipper handles the second, and we can do both in the one visit where it suits.
For on-site chipping we bring the machine to your block and run anything up to about 200mm diameter through it. That covers a weekend of DIY pruning, branches from a limb that came down in a blow, or the leftovers from a paddock tidy-up. The chip stays as a pile for you to use, or we load it back into the truck and take it away, which beats hauling trailer loads down the hill to a transfer station.
For bulk mulch we sell what our own work produces, fresh hardwood chip straight off the chipper, good for paths, weed suppression and around established trees, and aged mulch that has spent months breaking down in the heap, softer and darker, gentle enough for garden beds and new plantings. The cool, wet hill climate is hard on bare soil, and a good mulch layer holds moisture in summer and warmth in winter. Order by the cubic metre, delivered to the driveway, with spreading added on if you would rather not barrow it.

Qualified arborists with public liability insurance and a locally based crew. Quotes are written and itemised. Sites are left clean.
Fully insured
Ask before we start and we will send a current Certificate of Currency, so you can check the public liability cover yourself instead of taking our word for it.
Qualified arborists
Trade-trained in tree work, not just chainsaws, so you get straight advice on whether a tree actually needs to come down, not a pitch for the biggest job we can sell.
Same day response
We are in these hills most days, so a quote visit often gets tacked onto an existing run rather than booked weeks out. A dangerous tree jumps the queue ahead of routine work.
Locally based
The crew works these hills week in, week out, so we know which roads take a truck and chipper, how mountain ash behaves in a big blow, and what Yarra Ranges Council asks before a permit tree comes down.
Careful pruning
Every cut lands at the branch collar so the tree can seal the wound, and we never top a tree to bring its height down in a hurry. That shortcut leaves a big eucalypt pushing weak regrowth that snaps in the next blow.
Right equipment
The gear suits these blocks: a narrow-track chipper and stump grinder that fit down tight hill driveways, rigging rated for heavy timber, and a crane brought in when that is the safer lift.

How big a branch can the chipper take?
Up to around 200mm diameter clean through, which covers most prunings and storm material. Anything bigger we cut into chunks first, then put the smaller pieces through. Trunk wood thicker than that usually gets cut into rounds and either left for firewood or quoted as a separate haulage line if you want it gone.
What is the difference between fresh and aged mulch?
Fresh chip comes straight off our chipper after a removal, mostly hardwood, holds moisture well and locks down weeds. It suits paths and around established trees. Aged mulch has spent months breaking down in a heap, so it is softer, darker, and gentle enough for garden beds and new plantings where fresh chip would briefly steal nitrogen from the soil.
How much mulch do I need to order?
For a 75 to 100mm layer over a bed, one cubic metre covers roughly 10 to 13 square metres. Measure the bed in metres, multiply length by width, then divide by 11 for a rough cubic-metre figure. Ring the dimensions through when you order and we work it out together so you are not left with half a load over.
Can the mulch be delivered and spread in Monbulk?
Yes, both. A tipper drop is the default, the truck backs up the driveway where it can and tips the load. Bear in mind some steep hill driveways limit where a loaded truck can safely sit, so tell us about the access when you order. If barrowing is not on the cards, add the spreading line and the crew will rake it out before they leave.
